About Luckley House

Luckley House School is an all-round excellent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 11-18. The School is set on attractive grounds with excellent facilities, and at just 40 miles from London, it is the perfect location for boarders. Our uniqueness lies in the combination of our size, Christian ethos and flexibility to meet the needs of individual pupils and their families. We provide a distinctly academic education tailored to each pupil’s unique needs. This is offered in the context of a broad curriculum that celebrates the arts and sports as much as academic achievement.

At Luckley, we consider the young people as they grow up. While we recognise the achievements of those with the highest grades, we also broaden our view of what success means for everyone. We all must be successful for ourselves and the people around us. This is as much about what we do, why we do it, and how we can all thrive and contribute to society positively.

When a young person leaves Luckley for whatever pathway they choose, we recognise their success. If they are correctly equipped and full of excitement and enthusiasm for the next stage of their life, then they are already successful. This may mean a clutch of the highest grades for some, but for others, it will be a spread of grades in the exams. And these grades will be part of the story; every young person will have learnt and developed along the way. For every list of grades, there is a young person full of potential.

As Head at Luckley, I review the results lists and rejoice as I know what went into every grade achieved. More than that, I see beyond the statistics to the truly unique young people who have grown up and achieved so much more than just those grades.

Admissions Process

If you live overseas, you will be required to complete the registration form online and submit it with a registration fee of £150 for UK applicants and £250 for overseas applicants, either directly, or via an agent. We will require an initial report giving an account of your child’s academic achievements and personal qualities.

Your child will be required to sit appropriate entrance tests under examination conditions and take an ‘English as a Second Language’ (ESL) test to determine his/her level of English. Arrangements can be made for applicants to sit our tests at their current school.

Your son or daughter will also be invited to have a video interview with the Head, if they are unable to visit the school in person.

Boarding

Our aim is to provide a warm, supportive home for our boarders, in which friendships and social skills can be nurtured. We have a small boarding community and our boarding offer is very flexible to meet the individual needs of the modern family. We provide a home for both full and weekly boarders from the UK and overseas. In addition, our flexi-boarding provision enables a number of our day students to regularly stay overnight, which encourages integration and the development of strong friendships between day students and  full and weekly boarders.

Pastoral Care

Our boarding staff  adopt a close-knit and supportive approach where pastoral care is paramount. Our aim is to provide a warm, supportive home, in which friendships and social skills can be nurtured. All pupils also have daily contact with their Form Tutor, who takes a close interest in their academic and social welfare. Regular meetings with the Heads of Sections and Deputy Heads provide a forum for all staff to discuss the individual progress of each child.

We have a well-equipped Health Centre run by a fully qualified Nurse, with 24-hour cover.

Academic

At Luckley we believe in creating a bespoke learning experience for each pupil, which recognises their strengths and uses these to maximise wider learning and academic achievement. A curriculum that both stretches and nurtures is key to all pupils reaching their potential, both in and out of the classroom. We consider learning a lifelong adventure that should develop pupils holistically, as people who wish to offer service to others, are of good character, want to make a positive difference, are confident, compassionate, courageous and who aim high!

We offer GCSE and A Level programmes of study and from September 2024 will be introducing a three-year A Level programme, which will be bespoke for the individual student.

Sixth Form

With a modern, purpose built Sixth Form study area, a dedicated and highly qualified team of teachers and an impressive record of securing first choice university places it is hardly surprising that the sixth form at Luckley is attracting more and more students from other schools. We pride ourselves on specialist, small-group teaching, with one-to-one support from tutors. You will be given the freedom to stretch yourself academically while learning to use time responsibly, just as you will need to do at university or in the workplace.

Testimonials

Boarding at Luckley House is very homely and like a community, and because the boarding house is quite small everyone is very close and we know each other really well.

I love boarding. I always feel welcome, my roommates feel like my sisters and we get on well in boarding and during school. My room is very comfortable and we have a lot of space and time to do work and chill out with friends. The staff are very friendly and we always have someone to talk to if something is worrying or upsetting us.

Phoebe, Full Boarder

“To say that Luckley has gone above and beyond for me is an understatement. As a new student joining in Year 10, not knowing anyone, I was immediately met with incredible support from pupils and teachers. Within a few days, I knew that this school stood out from the rest, be this from breaking the traditional boundaries between year groups through common interests such as sport, music or drama or knowing that in whatever area we focus on, we will get undivided attention and support; or from our phenomenal community.

Luckley’s small community allows us to be seen as individuals. Teachers know exactly how we work, what extra support we need, and how best they can support us throughout our time here because they genuinely care about who we are and who we want to be. As a pupil in Year 13, knowing that I had the full support from teachers in my endeavours was a massive confidence boost.

I hope you can see through these few examples how Luckley supports every individual within the school, whether you join in Year 7 or Sixth Form, whether you want to become a police officer or a vet, or whether you excel in sports or academics, Luckley allows us to be ourselves.”
